Early Reading Skills

Is your child struggling to keep up in preschool or kindergarten? A few decades ago, children didn’t learn to read until they were in first grade. However, to remain competitive with the rest of the world, children are expected to perform earlier and earlier. By the time they leave preschool, they need to know what each letter is and the sound it makes. By the time they enter kindergarten, they should be meshing sounds.

I believe the best way to learn the skills needed to become a lifelong reader is to make it fun. We’ll start with an assessment that identifies the things your child needs to know. I’ll play fun games and chat with you, because you know your child best.

Through individualized, 30-min. tutoring sessions, I’ll work with your child on the skills they need to develop. We will play games, tell stories, discover fun books and make reading skill time so much fun they will want to attend tutoring sessions.

The first 30-minute session is an assessment. While I will offer tips to help, the majority of the time is spent getting to know your child and figuring out how to come up with a customized plan to best help your child excel. I recommend committing to at least 60 days of tutoring. You can schedule your sessions weekly or bi-weekly, in advance or as you go. Whatever works best for your family and your budget.
